Howard Brown hopes to turn what began as pro bono work to help Jewish organizations communicate on the Web into a big moneymaker involving all denominations.

His Franklin-based CircleBuilder Software L.L.C. has raised $1.5 million from friends, family and angel investors, has launched a second round of fundraising that hopes to raise $2.5 million and is about to build a Web site and provide software for Bloomfield Hills-based St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church.
